During the hustle and bustle of a busy schedule, a person can easily get wrapped up in the ever-growing list of tasks that some how manage to consume the entire day. High tempo occupations are usually associated with high stress levels which are known to cause a myriad of health issues. If you take a few minutes to follow a few tips and allow yourself to relax, appreciate, and enjoy the fruits of your labor you will find yourself happier and healthier than the person who doesn’t.
1. Do not worry yourself with “keeping up with the Jones.” Instead, keep focused on your own agenda. I overheard a conversation between two colleagues of mine where one was complaining about not having a built-in fireplace on her back porch. The frustration was thick in her voice as she argued that everyone else in her neighborhood had one. Coming from a low income family I could only think to myself how blessed she was if that was all she had to complain about. There are people in this world that cannot afford to even feed their children so be thankful that you have as good as you do.
2. Never compare yourself to others. Your path will cross with other people throughout your life. Your current situation does not necessarily mean you are heading in a negative or bad direction. Your actions and mindset determine your future.
3. Take time each day to verbally state what you are thankful for, the amazing things your witnessed, and recall joyful memories in as much detail as possible. Some people write these down, but I understand that this may consume too much time when compared against, work, parenting, and other responsibilities. For now, just ensure you block time to think on these positives and in the future, do consider writing them down in your memoirs.
Appreciate the little things in your life. Note the positives that you experience each day and use them as testimony for your blessed life.
